The Tribute offered the closest experience I have ever had to real links style golf. True golf history comes out when courses such as Royal Troon, Carnoustie, and St. Andrews are mentioned. So it is no surprise that these courses remain on most golf junkies bucket list. If you desire to check off that bucket list by playing the top 18 holes of Scotland’s historical golf landscape in one day- The Tribute has you covered.

The course is wide as it is long on many holes. But brutally challenging on others. Strong winds coming off Lake Lewisville creates a ton of defense for players of any skill level. The entire course is easy to appreciate, but for me personally, I enjoyed 17 the most. The road hole at St. Andrews requires a blind tee shot over the “hotel” that guards the fairway. If you accomplish a shaped tee shot into the fairway, you are left with an approach shot guarded by more sand than you care to imagine.

While every round certainly has an end goal in mind, this slice of history homage is more about the appreciation of the game than your net low round. With so much iconic golf nostalgia that helped shape and form the game as we know it today in one place, this is a course I would love to repeat again.
